The summer in Ranthambhore is most exciting. With animals crowding around the main water holes it makes for action packed game viewing.
All activity is centred around water. In one drive we saw a golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus), a Brown Fish Owl (Bubo zeylonensis) perched on grey rocks looking for water, the female blue bulls (Boselaphus tragocamelus) dashing across a lush water hole. The brilliant yellow of the Laburnum (Cassia fistula) tree and the bright orange of the Flame of the Forest (Butea monosperma) is littered with Rose-ringed Parakeets (P. krameri manillensis) drinking out of the buds. Of course the big male tiger, Ustad (T24) immersed in water against the jagged lines of a rock face, his face mirrored in the reflection made for a perfect scene.
Quiet and dramatic, Ranthambhore at its best.
