Blink and you’ll miss the undulating desert track that meanders off the surprisingly well-paved Jodhpur/Jaisalmer highway and plonks you in the middle of a sublime mirage. But one wonders whether this is a deliberate attempt to protect a treasure?
The Serai is one such treasure comprising of supreme luxury, of whiter than white tents infused with understated elegance, coupled with unrivaled attentive care and, hold your breath, gingerly nestled in 100 acres of desert where you can stand on a clump of bush and watch the weather roll in…
Right off the bat my three nights weren’t enough. I kicked myself for not having more time and a larger spending limit on my credit card – yes, the Serai is expensive (although it’s worth its weight in gold and more) but what Team Serai offers by way of understated elegance, palette-blowing food and rejuvenation of the soul cannot be equated with money.
As a peripatetic filmmaker/photographer I’ve done the four corners of the world and have had the pleasure of bedding down in some unusually interesting and remarkable properties, but by redefining the art of hospitality in it’s brief 5 years of existence the Serai is already leagues ahead of most of the rest.
