This is an update on the utilization of the funds collected from across Anand as a contribution towards the rehabilitation of the Uttarakhand Flood Disaster.
In June 2013, a multi-day cloudburst centered on the North Indian state of Uttarakhand caused devastating floods and landslides in the country’s worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami.
We at Anand chose skill development and placement of male youth from the disaster affected regions as a part of our rehabilitation programme. To execute this, as guided by our Spicer Plant, Pantnagar, SNS Foundation got in touch with CII Foundation, Uttarakhand State.
On behalf of Anand, SNS Foundation committed to CII Foundation to undertake the training of 50 youth and since placements are essentially to be found in the state of Uttarakhand, CII Foundation will be doing the necessary facilitation.
The trade selected for training is the Honda certified 2-Wheeler Technician programme of 8-weeks duration. The training, boarding and lodging costs of youth coming in from different districts of Uttarakhand would be borne by SNS Foundation out of the Anand Group contribution earmarked for this purpose.
To recruit eligible candidates from disaster affected communities, CII Foundation in turn has partnered with Uttarakhand Skill Development Society (USDS). On Wednesday, April 23 a small beginning was made with 5 candidates from the districts of Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Chamoli and Uttarakashi joining the 2-Wheeler technician training at SNS Foundation, Gurgaon. Representatives from both CII Foundation and USDS were present. There are 7 more candidates who will be joining us by the end of next week.
We are delighted that we were able to contribute in some small way to the betterment of life for these young people who lost everything in the past year.
