When SUJAN’s Owners and Creative Directors Jaisal & Anjali Singh envisioned their latest wilderness experience JAWAI, Rajasthan, they knew they wanted to create something contemporary to represent a style that combined subtle opulence with abundant adventure; a vigourous rendition of camping at its finest.
Created in a timeless flourish with canvas, stainless steel and leather accoutrements, each luxury tent at JAWAI is designed with it’s own private verandah, equipped with a beautiful writing desk and seating area, that look upon unobstructed, spectacular views of the dramatic wilderness around. The use of local stone and stainless steel brings an understated, elegant and light feeling to the camp. Anjali designed the 1930s industrial-style, tubular brushed-steel furniture herself and chose accessories, like candleholders and lamps from India-based designer Michael Aram’s Botanical Leaf Collection.
The celebrated artisan, Michael Aram is an American born artist who works primarily in metal. After studying fine art and living as an artist in New York in the late 1980’s, he B took what would later be a life-altering trip to India where he discovered rich metal working traditions. Inspired to work with craftsmen whose skills he felt were greatly untapped, he turned his creative energies towards craft based design, setting up a home and workshop in New Delhi.
With much of his work being inspired by nature, it seemed the perfect collaboration to compliment Anjali’s creative vision for JAWAI and the result is simply stunning..!
