At JAWAI we aim to give you, the guest, the best guided experience in India. And we mean it. As a team we are continually looking for ways to improve ourselves, test ourselves and grow. We have assembled a team of partly Indian, partly South African naturalists who will strive to change the face of guiding as you know it. One of the best aspects of JAWAI is that it allows us the flexibility to run things at our own times, go for walks and truly come to grips with one of the worlds most dramatic landscapes, unhindered by regulation. The Leopard population is obviously our focus, but we are determined to convey to you the story of culture, history and life in this part of rural India. It is different from anything else and we aim to push the boundaries of the experience. Read More JAWAI – taking guiding to the next level
The 68th Indian Independence Day meant for a long weekend of festivities and exploration. I walked the length and breadth of Delhi nearly wearing holes in the soles of my shoes. On Saturday night I made a spur of the moment decision that on my third visit to India it was about time for me to see the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal page, in my guide book, is curled up and dirtied so much by me reading, re-reading and reading again the page dedicated to the greatest symbol of love! I decided that enough was enough – it was time to visit one of the great Wonders of the World. Read More The Taj Mahal

After a lengthy break back home in South Africa I have returned for another season with SUJAN in India. I so enjoyed my first season helping set up, run and develop JAWAI that I simply had to return for more. Currently I am based in the head offices in Delhi helping out with odds and ends with regards to all the camps, but my heart is set on returning to JAWAI. Read More Why I have returned to JAWAI!

Elephant Pepper Camp happens to be situated smack bang in the middle of prime lion habitat! Vast grasslands surround the luxury-tented camp for as far as the eye can see. Large herds of Wildebeest, Zebra, Topi and gazelle are dotted all over: plenty of food for Africa’s apex predator. So much food in fact that this area houses a lion pride that last month numbered over 25 individuals! Read More Whooping and Roaring
The magic of the Indian wilderness goes a step further when you reach The Jawai Leopard Camp.
Sprawled between Udaipur and Jodhpur, Jawai is one of a series of hamlets strung around the Jawai dam in the Aravalli hills of Rajasthan. A place of dramatic beauty, the panoramic vista is dotted with small African Kopje-like hills which surround the water body, Cactus-like scrub, Flame-of-the –forest trees and sparsely populated farmland. After spending a week at Elephant Pepper Camp, in the Mara North Conservancy of Kenya, I can tell you that my biggest, and greatest surprise has been the incredibly low footprint of this camp. With ten perfectly sized and very comfortable tents the camp is tucked away into a small treed glade bordering on a gigantic wildebeest and zebra inundated grassland.
