With each of our properties set in diverse and unique locations with historical and cultural importance, we offer our guests a chance to experience the ‘destination’ through our tailor –made excursions. Within the State of Rajasthan in India our properties lie close to four of the six UNESCO hill forts. These reflect the elaborate, fortified seats of Rajput power that flourished between the 8th and 18th centuries, with relative political independence. The iconic sites, wonderfully enriching for our guests, manifest a vast expanse of the history of India.
Rajmahal Palace is one of the oldest and most treasured palaces in the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur. This exquisite private palatial home that belongs to the Royal Family of Jaipur sits in a prime location at the center of Rajasthan’s bustling capital. The Palace exudes a sense of celebrated history; immerses you into the splendour of this majestic family home, filled with stories from its royal past. Experience the grandeur, luxury and comfort of regal India today.
From the Masai tribes, who are our hosts at Elephant Pepper Camp, to the Rabari herdsmen that traverse the hills of JAWAI, it is by exploring new cultures that you take away something very special from your experience. Sharing our world and cultures with you is what makes the SUJÁN travel experience stand apart. Culture gives our destinations their anchor. The Serai was born out of a wonderful historical and cultural discovery made some forty years ago, by the Singh family that we continue to share with our guests.
Sher Bagh lies at the edge of Ranthambhore National Park, which is located at the junction of two iconic hill–ranges – the Aravallis and the Vindhyas. It is one of the finest places in the world to encounter and watch wild tigers. The Park takes its name from the crenellated fortress of Ranthambhore, one of India’s largest and oldest forts which sits atop a hill surrounded by the forest. No other wilderness in the world within its embrace, such a collection of crenellated bastions, engraved cenotaphs, medieval pleasure palaces, temples, tombs and mosques, lakes and streams as does the forest of Ranthambhore.
A passion for wildlife and a deep–rooted commitment to conservation is at the very heart of SUJÁN. This encouraged us to begin our journey into ecotourism, and to discover unique wilderness destinations to share with travellers from around the world. Sher Bagh lies on the outskirts of Ranthambhore National Park which is the finest habitat in the world to see tigers in the wild. Mughal ruins, palaces and cenotaphs lie scattered across ancient hills and forests. Apart from being home to the tiger, wild boar, deer, antelope and monkey that are commonly seen, sightings of the jackal, mongoose, sloth bear and leopard are fairly regular too. In winter, thousands of birds migrate from Europe and Siberia, making Ranthambhore an ornithologist’s paradise.
JAWAI opened as the only luxury tented property in a private area of this stunning, sprawling wilderness that is also home to one of the world’s highest densities of leopards in the wild. Without the restrictions of a national park, our team of naturalists has had the freedom to research this unique ecosystem, on top of which sits the leopard in coexistence with the local Rabari herdsmen, as it has done for centuries. The wildlife experience here is completely unique. Choose to walk, hike, ride or travel by jeep as you explore this stunning landscape and abundance of nature. With over 200 different species of birds recorded, including the flamingo and pelican, along with wild cats and antelope, this is a wildlife haven.
Our Field Team includes some of the most experienced, passionate and well known drivers and trackers. Their sense of the wilderness, wildlife and of course the big cats are unparalleled and one can be assured of ‘the best seats in the house’ for sightings. Carefully chosen binoculars, in–house cameras and mobile canteens form part of the kit that will accompany you on a game drive.

Celebrate. Dance. And play with colours. As one of India’s best–known and most popular festivals, Holi is a must–do experience. Celebrating the end of winter and welcoming spring, it is marked on the last full moon of winter. As with many Indian festivals, the dates vary from one year to the next, but Holi typically falls at the beginning of March and is one we love to celebrate with the local communities, neighbouring our properties.
Celebrated across India, Diwali is the Festival of Lights – a time that marks the triumph of good over evil, the bringing in of the harvest, and the start of the New Year. It is one of the nation’s most important festivals, a time when families come together to celebrate and feast. Homes, streets, temples and forts are adorned with magical candlelight. Usually in October or November, Diwali festivities last for a couple of days.
